Executive Director

Kennedy Heights Montessori Center (KHMC) is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic Executive Director to lead and grow our dynamic Montessori center. Providing early childhood care and education, KHMC is a 5-Star Step Up to Quality school located within a culturally diverse, thriving urban community of Greater Cincinnati.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the education of children, lead through influence and collaboration, embrace diversity, and have the ability to coach and develop staff. He or she should have strong business acumen, be an excellent communicator and skilled decision-maker, and possess the ability to create systems and processes to support and grow the school.

For more than 50 years, KHMC has championed Montessori principles and provided a pure Montessori educational experience to a culturally and socioeconomically diverse student body. KHMC is a private, non-profit, parent-coop school serving up to 90 students from age two through kindergarten.

The Executive Director will work closely with KHMC’s Board of Directors to carry out the school’s educational mission.

 

Position Purpose

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and growth of Kennedy Heights Montessori Center (KHMC)–a 5-Star Step Up to Quality school providing early care and education to children two years old through kindergarten. The Executive Director ensures the school’s primary mission of providing a pure Montessori educational experience, to a culturally and socioeconomically diverse student body, is met.

Responsible for the day-to-day operations of KHMC as well as the development and implementation of long-range goals, this position reports to the KHMC Board of Directors. The Executive Director executes organizational policies established by the Board, acting within the limits of the financial and operational policies of that body.

The position oversees all faculty and staff in the school’s toddler, Montessori, and extended day programs. Leading by example, the Executive Director adheres to the school’s core values that guide behavior among students, parents, and staff: diversity, respect, peace, relationships, honesty, and compassion.

 

Essential Functions/Accountabilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the programs and activities of KHMC to meet the fiscal needs of the school as well as the students and families served.
  • Foster a culturally and socioeconomically diverse population. Promote understanding of diversity and multicultural issues to school children, families, and staff.
  • Maintain an effective relationship with the Board of Directors. Work closely with the Board on matters affecting the mission, strategic plan, and financial stability of the school.
  • Demonstrate accountability for the operating budget and financial stability of KHMC.
  • Ensure the school’s compliance, licensing and accreditation with state, city and all other regulating agencies. Inform the Board of non-compliance as needed.
  • Lead and manage staff to continue KHMC’s high standards of quality education and care.
  • Drive student enrollment and retention in all programs.
  • Identify then create systems and processes to support and grow the school.
  • Assume ultimate responsibility for ensuring development and fundraising goals are met.
  • Actively initiate and promote collaboration, and serve as primary contact and spokesperson to external parties in the mutual interest of furthering shared missions to include the Kennedy Heights Development Corporation, Kennedy Heights Arts Center, Cincinnati Recreation Commission, United Way, community and neighborhood councils, Hamilton County and 4C.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of KHMC.

 

Job Requirements

  • Education—Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution, preferably in the fields of Education, Public Policy, Non-profit or Business Management. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience—Montessori credentials to include kindergarten, with a minimum of three years’ teaching experience. Independent school administration or non-profit management a plus.
  • Knowledge—Must be highly knowledgeable of the Montessori philosophy and educational process as well as procedures and best practices related to early education. Must possess knowledge of the requirements for preschool-based compliance and accreditation. Experience with these processes is a plus.
  • Skills/Competencies—Ability to cultivate effective and respectful relationships with students, families, staff, and the community. Provide outstanding customer service and care to students and families. Serve as a role model to staff by upholding all KHMC’s policies and procedures included in the employee handbook. Exhibit behavior in accordance with KHMC’s core values. Trained in First Aid and CPR.
  • Technical Skills—Proficiency with MS Office products and the ability to quickly learn and apply new technology skills.
